3. Performing Tawaf ( Circumambulating the Ka'bah)
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to perform ablution before performing tawaf. It was also authentically narrated that he (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) forbade a menstruating woman to perform tawaf unless she purified herself. All of the above shows that one in a state of minor or major ritual impurity is prohibited to perform tawaf unless one purifies oneself. The verse means that one should never enter a mosque while being in a state of major ritual impurity except for those who are passing through it on their way. Since on in a state of Janabah is prohibited to stay in a mosque, the, with greater reason, one in the same state is prohibited to perform tawaf. In a nutshell the above mentioned deeds are prohibited to be performed by one is a state of ritual impurity, whether minor or major.
